Support a Local Chapter Near You

It takes a village of volunteers at the community level to support our Local Chapters. Each Local Chapter is run by our volunteer Local Coordinators. They work with an amazing network of volunteers and are often looking for additional support. There are a variety of roles for individuals to get involved to help them reach their goals.

Common Chapter Support Roles

While each of our Local Chapters adheres to guidelines in their overall operations, individual chapters run autonomously in how their volunteer support roles are structured. Some chapters are quite small and manage with only a few volunteers while other chapters require a small village to help them manage their chapter goals.

Our biggest Shoebox drive is during the holiday season and many chapters only require support during this time of the year to help bring it all together.

Other chapters support shelters on numerous occasions throughout the year and are looking for more constant support.

Here are some of the common volunteer support roles that our chapters utilize:

Community Outreach

Boots on the ground roles! You are a great communicator and will be assisting your Local Chapter in reaching out to your community to raise awareness and encourage involvement. You may also help to facilitate Shoebox Drives with these groups. Outreach may include local shelters/shelter agencies, businesses & corporations, schools, colleges & universities and even service based community groups.

Administration

You are organized and love timelines!  Assist your local chapter with general administrative duties which may include monitoring emails and distributing communications, maintaining chapter tracking sheets in some cases helping manage the chapter's financial transactions or assisting with volunteer recruitment and scheduling.

Fundraising

You like the 'Ask'!  Assist your local chapter in creating, planning, organizing and implementing fundraising initiatives. This may include coordinating fundraising campaigns and events, or playing more of a support role for various fundraising event logistics and activities in your community.

Marketing & Public Relations

Help us build community awareness and support for The Shoebox Project mission! You will be assisting in communicating our mission, community initiatives, fundraising events, public activities, etc. to various community outlets such as local event calendars, local news/media outlets, public officials, and local personalities.

Social Media

You like to spread the word! Develop, implement and manage your local chapter’s social media plan across various platforms.

Shoebox Inspections

You like everything to be neat and pretty!  Be the organizer or assist in ensuring that each Shoebox donated is a gift you would like to receive yourself. This involves making sure that each Shoebox is inspected, sealed and ready for delivery to a woman in need. Most importantly we encourage that each of our Shoebox gifts includes a handwritten note of support for the recipient. You can lend a hand in writing notes if you have limited time but still want to make a big impact.

Drivers - Shoebox Pickups & Deliveries

You like to be on the move and in the action! Assist with pick up and delivery of items throughout your chapter’s Shoebox drive as needed. This may include distributing flyers, gathering fundraising items, picking up Shoeboxes from public drop-off locations, etc. Most importantly this will involve what we've all been working towards, delivery of our Shoebox gifts to our shelters!
