With International Women’s Day coming up on March 8th, and in a period where women’s rights are on the chopping block, sectors of the population are being ostracized, discriminated against and even violently attacked, many are left feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to move forward...

The Shoebox Project believes in fostering a world where ALL women are valued, respected and treated with dignity and respect. A Shoebox gift is a small gesture of kindness from one caring community member to another, which reminds a woman in crisis that regardless of her background or circumstances, she is not alone.

Since our volunteers are still recovering from the holiday season, and we are only collecting Shoeboxes in a few select regions this International Women’s Day, we wanted to let our passionate supporters know about some other incredible organizations that, like us, are fighting hate and oppression with an arsenal of compassion, empathy and acceptance. Check out our slide show below!

The theme of IWD 2017 is #BeBoldForChange, which for some can feel a little intimidating. We believe, however, that being “bold” means something different for everyone, and that an act of resistance can be as simple as showing kindness and compassion to someone in need; refusing to tolerate bigotry wherever you are; committing to circulate news from only trusted, reliable sources; or even speaking out on social media using trending hashtags (check out #DontCutHerOut as an example).

There are many ways you can use your voice to stand up for something you believe in. This #IWD2017 we encourage you to discover what “being bold” means to you, load up on ammunition of empathy and understanding, and join the resistance in whatever way feels right for you.
