The Montreal Shoebox Project
The Montreal Shoebox Project Teamed Up with the Ardene Foundation for IWD 2016!
Wednesday, March 9th - To mark International Women’s Day, the Ardene Foundation hosted their 1st annual International Women’s Day event for 260 women who are currently living in shelters, are at risk of homelessness and recent refugees. A total of 160 women from 27 women’s shelters and 100 refugees were invited to treat themselves to items of clothing, footwear and accessories. La rue des femmes, Chez Doris and Native Women’s Shelter were among a few organizations who attended this wonderful event at Ardene’s Decarie location.
The event that was held at Ardene at 5455 rue des Jockeys, Montreal, H4P 2T8 and lasted an incredible 7 hours from 2:00 PM-9:00 PM! An assortment of recent merchandise was shipped to this location so that the women had a large selection of winter clothing, accessories and spring and summer items to prepare them for the seasons ahead.
An astonishing $110,000 worth of merchandise was donated to this group of women during the event! Ardene Foundation’s goal was to celebrate women everywhere and especially allowing women in need to feel good about themselves on this very special day. This event would not have been possible without the great support and hard work of the women from The Shoebox Project for Shelters and the team at Action Réfugiés Montréal.
“We were overwhelmed by [Ardene’s] generosity and we will be forever grateful to [Ardene] for opening [their] store and [their] hearts to those in need on this International Women's Day!” said Irene Jansson the Executive Director of Auberge Transition...keep reading

Our Past Work
In 2013, Marcèle Lamarche, the director of Le Chaînon shelter, wrote the following to us:
"I would like to express once again my most sincere gratitude for the wonderful Christmas gift shoeboxes we received from you a few days before December 25th. It is amazing how those boxes carried so many products along with messages of solidarity from our community towards women in need who seek shelter, help and hope at Le Chaînon. On a personal note, may I add that for homeless women who search for a roof, a meal and a bed every single night at Le Chaînon and whose shoes are worn out, the shoebox is a strong symbol of sisterhood."
